What makes a great Halloween book?

Dear reader,
Today, as I was walking through the store, I spied a rack of Halloween movies. Being particularly partial to the spoopy season, I went to admire and reminisce. And it was there, nestled amongst such classics as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Friday the Thirteenth, that I saw it...
…the Shrek movies.
Now, I'm certain we can all agree that Shrek is NOT a Halloween movie (If not, then I'm sorry for whoever hurt you), but it got me thinking: What actually qualifies as a Halloween movie/game/book? Does it just have to be scary? Pull from the standard cast of Hollywood monsters? Follow an angsty teen living in a small New England town experiencing a mid-Autumn supernatural crisis?
The more I thought about it, the blurrier things got.
For example, I absolutely adore the world of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. I doubt anyone would classify it as a Halloween book or show, but there's just something about the Victorian gothic aesthetic, the Fae Court lore, and the magical descent into madness that gets me ready to carve some pumpkins.
