Dear reader,
Anyone else here terrible at goodbyes?
I am of course referring to that bittersweet moment when you finally finish the last book or episode or film in a series. It's such a mixed bag of emotions: pride in your accomplishment, nostalgia for your favorite moments from the series, the sorrow of letting go of all these familiar characters who somehow managed to feel more like friends than fiction.
Perhaps I'm being a bit sappy about it, but I've definitely had this experience a lot over the years. And I don't think I'm the only one.
I had a buddy watch all of Breaking Bad only to skip the last episode. I've had numerous friends dump hours and hours into a video game only to never beat the final boss. And I could certainly name a few authors who really dragged their feet publishing the long awaited final book of their series.
So, which was it for you? Did you sob through all seven endings of Return of the King? Did you do everything except kill Ganon? Did you have to take a break before finishing the last episode of The Good Place to have a mini-existential crisis? (DEFINITELY not examples from my own life...)
What was your hardest fantasy goodbye? Shoot me an email! I'd love to hear about it.
