TRAVEL TIPS

This month, we feature two websites dedicated to finding great airfare deals online.

I Know the Pilot (I want that Flight) is a company that started in Melbourne, Australia. It's a travel portal that curates great deals for flights. Every day the deals are posted to their website, or if you sign up for their newsletter, the latest daily deals will be delivered to you directly.

There are some great savings to be had, and it's really useful if you don't have time to do a lot of preliminary research. Bookings are ultimately made with the actual provider of the flight or accommodation offer.

Click here to check them out.

Dollar Flight Club

This subscription travel service alerts members about the world's cheapest flight deals departing from their nominated home airport.

They use 'big data' to trawl the internet for the best deals to help save members 60-90% on their next flight. Members just need to pick their departure airport, watch for email/app alerts and book.

You can join for free here or for better deals, a choice of up to four departure airports and access to 'error fares'; you can pay for a premium subscription. We've got one and use it regularly to save money on airfares.

LUXURY BARGING IN FRANCE

This month in Australia, one of our favourite TV chefs, Justine Schofield, is in France aboard the European Waterways luxury barge Belle Epoque. She's making the most of the local produce in the region and cooking alongside the canals, usually with drop-dead gorgeous backgrounds.

The Belle Epoque is one of their fleet that cruises slowly along the Bourgogne Canal in Burgundy. We can attest to the beauty of travelling in this region aboard a similar vessel; we cruised here in 2019 aboard the Savior Vivre.

We also highly recommend travelling on other barges in France. If you are interested, you can read more about our various cruises noted below here.

2017 Savannah - Canal du Midi France (via Barge Lady Cruises)

2018 Renaissance - Loire Valley - Briare Canal and Canal latéral à la

Loire (via European Waterways)

2019 Spirit of Scotland - Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness (via European

Waterways) and Savoir Vivre Bourgogne Canal (via Barge Lady

Cruises)

2023 Enchanté - Canal du Midi France (via European Waterways)

PS - if you have access to Foxtel's Lifestyle channel, you can watch Justine aboard the Belle Epoque.

LOOKING TO BUY A MOTORHOME IN FRANCE?

A common question we get asked often from readers who are not EU citizens or don't live in the UK where it's easy to transport your own vehicle on the ferry/via the tunnel, is how a motorhome can be purchased legally.

We also get asked the simple question, "Do you know someone we can trust?".

For those of us motorhome enthusiasts who dream of travelling for longer periods overseas (and rule out hiring or leasing for cost reasons), trying to navigate the online world to buy a motorhome in a foreign country and having to part with large sums of money can be terrifying, especially in a world full of scammers.

For this reason, our guide to buying a motorhome legally in France is one of our most popular and most shared. In it, we recommend John Mottram from France Motorhome Sales as a true and trusted person to work with.

We've worked with other companies in the past, but John is the only person we recommend. John is an ex-pat Brit and also speaks fluent French, so being able to talk to the French in their native language, and then talk (mostly) to English-speaking clients is a win for everyone.

We have been working with John for many years, referring our readers to France Motorhome Sales, which helps our business and John's.

We've personally met John (see our photo below), so we can attest to him being a real human being and not someone (or something) unknown online.

If you decide to speak to John, we'd really appreciate it if you mentioned we referred you to him and to use our special code FMS1022.

You can read the full guide here.

Here's a little more about John.

"I have lived in France full-time since 2012 and have connections to family here going back to 2001. A combination of luck and circumstances landed me with the opportunity to start France Motorhome Sales in 2021, which has grown into a thriving community of like-minded travellers.

Having myself pushed through many bureaucratic barriers over the years, it is rewarding to help others navigate them a little more elegantly. Clients continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in pursuit of their dream trip and lifestyle.

It is an exciting place to be on the leading edge of independent travel across the EU and beyond."

You can contact John at France Motorhome Sales on (+33) 06 71 43 18 60, email@francmotorhomesales.com or via the website www.francemotorhomesales.com
