Crocuses in the Cracks
Feb 26, 2026 1:03 pm
Hi
It's February and the rain keep raining, BUT there are bulbs coming up!
This week I spotted these:
Crocuses literally growing in a crack in the concrete around a lampost!
They will be noticed by next to no-one.
Except me ;-)
I love how they have literally self-planted in a tiny bit of dirt in the cracks. How did they get there? No idea! Are they beautiful and making me smile each time I go past them? YES!
They actually so close to the lamp post that my car can't accidentally run them over. Not even the wheelie bins can get that close, so they're safe to shine their beautiful colours in the occasional sunshine.
I wonder what's making you smile this week. In my work as a hospital chaplain, we refer to these small moments of joy as Glimmers, and we encourage people to notice them, as in doing so we experience more joy in our lives.
Here's my list:
- Crocuses in the cracks
- Sunshine in the morning
- It's not dark until dinner time
- Tree shadows
- Sunshine
- Good coffee
- My rainbow bedspread
- My sister
- Friends who help me organise stuff
- My aloe vera plant which is growing very big
- Did I mention sunshine?
- Good friends to chat with
- Warm breakfast
- Starting to knit new socks
You'll notice that some things aren't new, others are repeated. That's how thanks works. It's not a challenge with rules, but a habit to notice the good, the beautiful, the things which bring us comfort or joy.
Why not take two minutes to make a quick list of your own?
That's all for now
