BOS newsletter 18th May 2026

It was great to hear the Bruckner sounding so good at the rehearsal on Wednesday. It’s going to be a fabulous concert so please do tell all your friends and family and make sure they’re there! I’m only sorry I can’t make it.

On the 23rd, the order of the rehearsal in the afternoon will be:

2.30pm - Beethoven

3.15pm - Bruckner

4.30ish - Wagner

As I explained, we desperately need more committee members. When Vicky and I step down in September there will only be four people remaining. That’s not enough to run two busy orchestras! You don’t need to sign up for life - just 12 months would be brilliant. Please don’t hold back and wait to be asked personally. If you want to know more, just drop me an email or give me a call on 07966 410984.

In the meantime, the organisation’s safeguarding policy is in the process of being reviewed and updated. If you are currently DBS checked and you’re happy for your name to be listed at the back of the document (so we can show we have a sufficient number of DBS checked people for the number of young people in the orchestra), please can you drop me a line to say so?

Enjoy the remainder of the BSO season and I’ll look forward to hearing how the concert went and seeing you all again in September, if not before.

Join us outside if the weather is kind, otherwise inside. Come along whenever suits you.

Food is available to order, if you wish. Last year, I remember there were some great looking plates of food coming out!

More details here: https://pheasantbedford.co.uk/

Please, however, note that for safeguarding reasons, this event is not suitable for under 18s, unless they are accompanied by their parent.

No need to sign up - just come along.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Final call…

May 23rd concert

We need a final push to sell tickets this week - let’s make the last BSO concert of the season one to remember!  It’s also Caroline’s last concert with us as Leader and we want it to be a great one!

Rupert has paper tickets, so if you want to buy them from him, you can do that on Wednesday and Friday this week.

I’m also signing off - this is my last week as Publicity Officer and the last week collating the newsletter, which I started when I was Interim Chair.

I’m handing over all things Publicity to Georgina as Publicity Officer, to the Flyers’ Team with Babs and Fei Ling, Hazel is looking after the Youth Ambassadors and Jamie Williams is continuing his work as our Marketing Graduate intern.  Huge thanks to them!

Thanks to you all for your support with Publicity and with my stint as Interim Chair over the last two seasons - we’ve experimented and explored and found things that worked and things that didn’t, but most of all it’s been a pleasure to serve you and to enjoy playing and experiencing wonderful music together.

Most importantly, I think we've learnt that there is definitely a growing demand for live classical music, especially from young people (confirmed by recent research done by Classic FM) - but across all ages - meaning that the future really is bright!

Best wishes

Ann
