CONCERTS AND TICKETS

This is your final call...

Time is ticking for you to get your tickets for our concert this Saturday 24th May at the Corn Exchange! And what a great concert we have lined up for you!

Bedfordshire Symphony Orchestra

Saturday 24th May

7.30-9.15pm

Bedford Corn Exchange

Guest conductor: Bjorn Bantock

Soloist: Jakob Kullberg

There are not many concerts where the great-grandson of the composer is the conductor! This Saturday, the concert will open with Bjorn conducting a piece composed by his great-grandfather, Granville Bantock. It's a terrific piece telling the story of sea pirates: Sea Reivers!

With Jakob Kullberg on the cello, we welcome an internationally renowned cellist to Bedford. He is going to perform Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1. which was written in 1959.  Shostakovich invited the famous cellist, Rostroprovich to play it. After the first play through, Shostakovich asked him repeatedly, “Do you like it? Do you really like it?” Rostropovich assured him that he did - and performed the premier a few months later.

BSO are very excited to bring this lively concerto to Bedford for you and to play it with Jakob. Young (and older) cellists are coming from near and far to hear him! It's going to be a memorable evening.

The Tchaikovsky barely needs an introduction, but I will remind you of the beautiful tunes, full orchestral sound and poignant ending!

Like all live music experiences, what happens on Saturday not only depends on our musicians. Your energy and your presence makes it into a performance. We're looking forward to seeing you and sharing this moment together.

We are excited to share with you that we have our new Ticket Shop in operation, which is easy, clear and quick to use.

With an increase in audience numbers at our concerts, please note we are moving towards online sales to make the concert experience better for you. The Front of House Team will be ready to welcome you!

With a new episode and a guest every month, we open the doors on the behind-the-scenes at the Bedfordshire Orchestral Society. Discover how we decide what to play, who inspires us and what you can look forward to from the Bedfordshire Orchestral Society.

Our podcast guest this month is Bjorn Bantock, our BSO Guest Conductor. Bjorn spoke to me about his career, growing up in South Africa and how he came to conducting. He also tells us about the fabulous programme that he has curated for us for our upcoming concert.
