Dear All
Spring has definitely sprung! I hope you are enjoying this sunny weather!
Committee News:
We had a Committee meeting last week and I've stepped in as Interim Chair until the elections in October at the AGM. I'd like to thank you in advance for your support in helping me and the Committee to close this Season and make the preparations for the next.
Finances:
Many charities and arts organisations are finding life financially tough right now and we are no exception unfortunately.
What could you do to help?
- Continue to be the best sales team ever and sell lots of tickets for our concerts!
- Check you're up to date with your BOS subscriptions (see below)
- If you or your business or someone you know would like to sponsor a concert next season, or the whole season, or sponsor our Under 18s free tickets or our Under 18s Subscriptions, please talk to me. We can arrange suitable and attractive sponsorship packages to suit all types of businesses/individual sponsors.
Urgent Subscriptions Reminder:
We have a number of people who have either not yet paid or only paid for one term this academic year!
Please ensure that you are up to date with your subscriptions before the start of the term.
If you need any further information about how to pay (and to check if you have paid), please contact me in the first instance.
What's ON in May/June:
We're so looking forward to this next term, with 4 events coming up:
Bedford Sinfonia concert on May 3rd with Paul Harris as clarinet soloist playing the fabulously jazzy Malcolm Arnold Clarinet Concerto no. 2.
There is a pre-concert talk at 6.30-7pm - all performers and audience are invited and very welcome. Paul is a very entertaining speaker as well as a great performer, teacher, composer, conductor, author, festival organiser. Do come along and bring your concert guests!
Ian and Paul joined me on a podcast episode a couple of weeks ago, that we have released this week. To tune in:
BSO perform on May 24th with Jakob Kullberg, an internationally renowned cellist, playing Shostakovich and with Bjorn Bantock conducting. We also have Tchaikovsky no. 6 - always a favourite and a very special addition: a fabulous piece by Bjorn's great-grandfather, The Sea Reivers. "Reivers" means pirates - and it certainly is atmospheric.
Finally, Bedford Sinfonia perform with Bedford Choral Society on June 21st and the Rotary Young Musician's Concerto Masterclass on June 22nd with members of Sinfonia.
This week and next is holiday time and we resume rehearsals straight after the Easter weekend with Sinfonia and BSO rehearsals. Please check below for dates.
In other news, keep an eye on our social media for photos of the BSO Second violins having a very summery pizza and practice this weekend!
