Who's Writing Your Story?

Hey Black Belt Leaders,

Welcome to this week's edition of the Black Belt Leadership newsletter, where we dive deep into shaping a life (and a legacy) that truly matters.

Who's Writing Your Story?

As I shared in this week's podcast installment (link below), we live in a world full of opinions. From social media profiles to workplace reputations, we're not just living our stories...we're constantly being interpreted, evaluated, and remembered by others.

The question we are often asking is: Who do YOU say that you are?

The more important, but often overlooked question is: Does the life you live match the story you want told?

Three Faces: Identity, Reputation, and Character

We all carry three versions of ourselves:

  1. Who you think you are (your identity)

  2. Who others say you are (your reputation)

  3. Who your actions reveal you to be (your character)

While you can manufacture an image, don't forget that character writes your true legacy. It's the evidence behind your reputation that ends the debate and settles the argument.

Questions to Guide a Life Worth Remembering

To start redefining the inscription you're leaving behind, reflect on these six essential questions:

  1. Values: What do I believe and why?

  2. Character: What am I becoming based on my beliefs?

  3. Integrity: Do my actions align with my beliefs?

  4. Impact: What changes because I showed up?

  5. Influence: Am I affecting others positively?

  6. Legacy: What remains after I'm gone?

Answer honestly, as these questions aren't just about how you'll be remembered when you're gone, but about the story you're writing every single day.

Make Your Mark...But Not in Stone

History teaches us that manufacturing legacy, like the ancient Pharaohs who built towering monuments, rarely works the way we plan. Titles, awards, and social profiles may impress in the moment, but only consistent character builds real influence.

As I shared in the podcast:

"Perhaps the greatest monument that could be erected in your honor isn't something that bears your name, but rather the positive impact you've made in the lives of others."

Your Challenge This Week

  • Choose five character traits you want associated with your name.

  • Then, ask the people closest to you how they would describe you.

  • If there's a gap, start bridging it today. Legacy is written-one decision and one interaction at a time.

Share Your Thoughts

What story are you writing through your actions? Hit reply and share the word or phrase you want to define your legacy.

We'd love to feature your reflections in a future episode!

Stay intentional, and live life on purpose.

Have a GREAT Day!
