Restricted Names

How do you use the word "Nigeria" or "Nigerian" when naming your company?
When choosing a name for your business, you must choose a name that resonates with your brand.
The whole process of choosing a name can be very tasking and eventually, when you do get a name that you think you want, the CAC may even still reject it for one reason or the other.
One key reason why the CAC can reject your chosen name aside from name similarity is if you use “restricted words” in naming your business.
One of such words is "Nigeria" or "Nigerian".
Depending on where it is used in the naming whether as a prefix, at the middle, or as a suffix.
Using the word "Nigeria" as a prefix connotes that the business or organization enjoys government patronage or that it is a government-established organization.
For example, "Nigeria Tech Service LTD Or Nigeria Laundry Service Limited.
In the above examples, the applicant of such names would need to apply for the consent of registrar general of the CAC to use the word Nigeria as a prefix because it suggests that the business enjoys government patronage.
On the other hand, if the word "Nigeria or Nigerian" is used in any other position of the name…
there will not be a need for any consent.
An example would be;
Skydive Travels Nigeria Limited ( LLC)
Or Build-right Service Nigeria (Enterprise)
The two names above do not suggest government patronage or any affiliation to any government body so they will fly without the consent of the registrar general.
I hope you found this helpful.
P.S. All the names I used as examples above are probably free, they do not belong to any existing company I know, so you can grab it or tweak it to suit your needs.
