It Is Not My Fault

Hello ,

How are you today?

I appreciate all the feedback from our last email.

I must agree that we all need some dose of motivation from time to time to help charge and refuel us.

So today, let me share with you a funny episode I had with a "would have been" Client after a prior agreement to retain my service as a legal consultant for his company..

Client: Barinaada I am sorry my Wife saw my mail before I could open it.

Barinaada: oh wow! What does that mean?

Client: She doesn't think our business needs a legal service yet.

Barinaada: Did you explain to her all that we discussed and how this will be beneficial to your Company?

Client: Yes I did, I wish we had started before she discovered the mail, I will have to get back to you on the retainer.

Barinaada: No wahala, we are always here when the need arises.

Client:( a few days later )

Barrister please I need an agreement urgently for a client.

Barinaada: we will draft it for X amount.

Client: Ah! Barrister that's too much oo.

Barinaada: That's why we should have had the retainer. Agreements for your clients among other things are part of the retainer package.

Client: I know, it's not me, it's my wife, she read the email before I could even read it. she just has to agree.

Barinaada: Eeyah! Pele.

So, ...

How would you deal with a situation like this, if you were in my client's shoes knowing that your business needs that particular legal solution?

How do you convince your partners that your business needs what it needs to solve a particular problem?

As you think about that, you must remember that as an entrepreneur if there is any professional you need even from the onset, it's a lawyer.

Why is this so?

.

A lawyer is useful almost in all areas of your business.

Right from the stage of registration of your company, to make sure that you are compliant with the rules that affect your business...

to help you understand your tax obligations and other regulatory requirements such as annual returns filings etc.

Basically, Your lawyer will help you get clarity about the legal aspect of your business and offer legal opinion accordingly.

Essentially, as a consultant having a lawyer to help you prepare tailored agreements to protect your interest for your every client will take away the stress of having to deal with "troublesome clients".

Your lawyer can also help you review contracts and identify unconscionable terms in the contract before you sign them.

I can go on and on but will stop here for now.

Don't be like my "Would have been Client" Do what is best for your business today.

Early is cheap
