The Pangs of Summer

I haz no tomatoes.
I suck at gardening. I have lots of tomatoes and pepper plants, in various stages of happiness. But I have no bright red tomatoes to eat. I have no peppers to smoke. I have a sad. Yes, this is me pouting. I suspect that in about two weeks I'll be begging people to come help me pick and process, but right now I'm just glaring at green tomatoes. Oh well.
I know, hard life, but dang it, there is a lot of sweat in that garden, I want tomatoes!!! Grumbles more.
As to the writing, umm... hides. It's kinda going? I was working on a novella about the dragon eggs hatching and Cori maybe going on a date and wrote around 10k only to realize it won't work and the eggs have to hatch in the next novel. I legit wanted to cry with frustration. I'm regrouping and working on the next book. I just need to focus better so maybe I can get this one done this fall. I feel like I should apologize but ugh. Life is way too distracting.
But on to books! I like to dive into good books and it is even better when they are series, but it is the best when they are on sale. Check this out Rangers of the Rift the entire season 1 is available for only $2.99! A defiant girl guards the gateway between life and death. But the boundaries are weakening, and the rift is about to unleash pure evil.
And if you want a taste before diving in, get book 1 free here.
~Grins~ Yes I bought it and yes it is on my TBR list. And no you can't ask how many books are on my TBR. Mainly because I have no clue.
I love superheroes and Wolverine has always been one of my favorites, mainly because he wasn't a boy scout (and yes if you buy me drinks in a bar we can have the Superman discussion). So if that is your jam, cynical, swearing, in your face superheroes, that aren't all that heroic give Part Time Superhero a try. It might fill that niggling crevice in your reader soul.
Now for something different. I used to game a LOT. I'm not just talking video games, but tabletop RPGs. A friend introduced me to Mike Lafferty and he bought a short story I did called "Flame to the Rescue". It's cute and right at 5k. He put it as the story for an RPG supplement for the White Stars system. His Kickstarter for the Zine he created is launching soon. If you are into RPG's or want to read my idea of a pulp sci-fi story check out his Kickstarter!
And this is literally the last day of the giveaway. A winner will be announced tomorrow. Enter here (and share!) and you can win a signed book.
Now for this weeks story. Snickers, my dragons are amusing.
Heat
The heat source drew him in. Glorious radiant heat like he hadn't felt since he left the star of his youth. How long ago had that been?
The mental wanderings slowed his approach until a shiver rippled through him. Scales were not meant to be this cold. They could only flex and bend, letting his shape stretch and change when he was warm enough. With a grumph he continued to the heat that called for him like a siren song.
One he had no desire to resist.
There were pesky walls in the way, and ants that screamed and ran as he approached, but he noted them only as you note all things about your new home. Something to deal with later, not now. The stone blocking access to that heat lasted only a moment, digging through volcanic rock was what his claws had been designed for. This was less impressive.
There in the glorious heat he curled up and closed his eyes already feeling his body warming and relaxing as the heat was absorbed into his very bones. This would make a good home.

Claire Monson stared at the hole in her nuclear reactor and the dragon now curled up in the waste chamber. Next to her one of the tech was screaming something about how they were all going to die.
"Shush. I'm thinking. Call the NRC and the head of the local military base. I need to talk to them."
Everything else she ignored as she stared at the dragon and the readings on her gauges. Amusingly or perhaps amazingly everything was in the green. The excess radiation was being absorbed. Not six hours ago it was about to go into a full melt down when the containment system failed, and now—it wasn't.
"What the hell is that?" A voice said from behind her. Claire didn't bother to turn around.
"I have no idea, but I'm trying to figure out how to keep it."
My kitchen is organized, my office is a bit cleaner and my desk is a disaster area. Sigh. Oh well, work in progress as always.
