Hi friend,

Some people are SUPER UNCOMFORTABLE with emotions. I totally get why. Many think they get in the way and skew judgement. Guess what.....they same way people can exhibit poor behaviors based off the way they cope with emotions, they can also exhibit excellent ones. In some cultures, expressing emotion is a major taboo and can really cause those who are more comfortable with them to be ostricized. So how do we find a place in the middle? Some common ground to ensure that we don't let the power of emotions overwhelm us or when needed underwhelm us?

The key is to understand that emotions are simply DATA!!! They are information from us, to us about us and about those we experience. People who are creative and innovative use the emotions of excitement, joy, anticipation and more to help them become even more creative. Those who experience anger when channeled right can use this powerful emotion to fuel effective change. I get pretty angry when I see kids mistreated so it helps me to feel more inclined to use that power to support causes that work towards eliminating child abuse. See how that works?!!! It's what we do with our emotions that matters. Emotions are normal chemical reactions that happen in our bodies but we have not always been socialized to deal with them properly.

In this month's newsletter (BELOW), you'll see some EQ competencies and some of the ways they help us. Send me a message back and let me know what you think or follow me on Instagram @IAMMZWORD and let me know your favorite part of the newsletter.
