2024 has been tough. Here's why I'm grateful.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Hey thriller fans,
2024 has been a rough year, one could say full of "fiction fodder." It started with my football team, the San Francisco 49ers, losing the Superbowl, and it's only gotten worse. Since this is a newsletter and not a memoir, there's no space for details, but, ugh, even my dog died last week.
So, Thanksgiving is a good time for me to regroup and remember the importance of gratitude. As an author who writes global thrillers, I watch the news, and have seen the heartbreaking challenges war has brought to Ukraine and the Middle East. When traveling the world, I've seen entire neighborhoods comprised of tin shacks with dirt floors. I have witnessed wide-eyed children who have to beg on the streets for enough to eat. I've known people forced into homelessness, and others who have lost loved ones this year.
When viewed from that perspective, my year has been tough, but not that bad.
I have a comfortable roof over my head, a big yard, and tasty food to eat.
Loved ones surround me.
And the books!
I'm truly grateful for the stories that keep me sane, whether it's the one I'm working on now for you, or the unputdownable thriller from another author that I got lost in for a few days last week.
Books have always helped me through tough times, and that's why I write. To pay it backwards... and forwards.
Because sometimes we all need a little escape.
