๐ธ EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEEK: Dogwood Days
Since you're one of my loyal readers and subscribers, I thought I'd give you a peek at what I'm working on next.
The next River Sutton Mystery is set in springtime, which means River Sutton is looking very pretty indeed. Dogwoods are blooming. ๐ท๐ผ๐ชป Daffodils and tulips are popping up everywhere. And, naturally, there's a festival: Dogwood Days.
In the book, Dogwood Days takes place at Morgan State Park. I named it after Morgan Morgan (no, that is not a typo), an important pioneer in the early settlement of West Virginia.
But the real life inspiration for the park is Tomlinson Run State Park in Hancock County, West Virginia. That's where I grew up. โค๏ธ
There's just one little problem.
There is no Dogwood Days at Tomlinson Run. ๐ But I wish there was!
West Virginia has a special connection to dogwoods. The flowering dogwood, which is native to West Virginia, is found in oak and hickory forests throughout fifty-two of West Virginiaโs fifty-five counties. Those spring blooms are a familiar part of the Mountain State landscape. I mean, who hasn't taken their yearly Easter photo in front of one?
