Hey Fam,

Loyalty, a faithfulness that is steadfast in the face of any temptation to renounce, desert, or betray. It’s more than just a word to me. It’s a way of life, a credence that guides me in every decision I make.

Nothing is more important to me than the loyalty I have to my family. Being a Valentino is an attribute we’re raised to uphold. One I take very seriously.

I love my family. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for any of them. A lot of people say that they’d die for the ones they love. That’s more than a sentiment to me. I really would die for my family.

I want to make it clear to you that my loyalty is and always will be to my family first. I don’t want you to mistake what I am doing here—sharing some gossip—for a lack of loyalty. I know that loyalty is just as important to you as it is to me. I trust that everyone that is reading this will keep their lips sealed about anything you may hear.

So much has been happening in the family this past year I thought I’d put pen to paper and fill you all in. We’ve had weddings, funerals, and even baby announcements. And we’ve had a change of leadership, a little restructuring you could say.

Let’s start with my eldest brother… Lorenzo moved to Australia to start his new life with his wife, Kyla. They’re living out their own fairy tale, completely obsessed with each other, and on the odd occasions when they come up for air and I get to talk to my brother, it’s never for long.

I’m happy for him. I miss him like crazy, though. He has said I can come and visit, but my parents are hesitant to let me go all the way to Australia without them. I’m not sure why, but most of my family seems to think I’m some kind of loose cannon with no self-control or regard to my own safety. I’m not saying they’re wrong, but they’re not right either.

Enzo also has a girl he’s been seeing; although he won’t admit it or tell any of us a thing about her. I know he met her at college, and I also know he spends most of his days following her around like the lost puppy he is. I’ve met her. I turned up at Enzo’s apartment unannounced one morning right as this girl was sneaking out of his bed. He woke up in the worst mood when he realized she was gone.

Like I said, my family has been busy. It seems like everyone is falling in love.

My cousin Dante and his girlfriend Josie might be the cutest damn couple I’ve ever seen. I wasn’t her biggest fan when I first met the girl. I didn’t like how she refused to give my cousin the time of day. If you ask me, any girl is fucking lucky to earn the attention of a Valentino. But my opinion is biased, because I happen to think my family is great.

Out of all my cousins’ relationships, Liliana has had the hardest time. She went and fell in love with an NHL player. Travis is a great guy. He’s not part of our world, though, and I think that’s what attracted Lil to him the most. Well, that and probably all those abs. That man is fine with a capital F. I’m rooting for their relationship. I really like them together, and I like how damn happy he makes her. It was tough when she first moved to Vancouver to be with him.

Sometimes I fear that I’m going to be the last one to ever leave New York. The last one standing, so to speak, because this love thing is not for me. Not that I haven’t been in love before. I have been. If I’m honest with myself, I still am. I’m just not stupid enough to do anything about it. The whole Romeo and Juliet story is not how I want to go out. And that’s exactly what would happen if I follow through on my feelings.

Anyway, this letter isn’t about me. It’s about everyone else.

I heard through the grapevine that my cousin Tilly got herself arrested. There’ll be more on that later, once I manage to dig up all the dirty details.

Then there’s Orlando. Sweet, quiet Orlando. He’s the only child of my Zia Luca and Zio Katy and very much the pretty rich boy who walks around breaking hearts wherever he goes. He’s set on following in his mother’s footsteps and launching his own music career. He’s good enough to make it too. Judging by the way he swaggers through the halls at school, you’d already think he was a star.

I think that’s about enough family gossip for now, though. I’ll probably be back with more at a later date. Although I hear that someone has documented Liliana and Travis’s story in a cute little package titled Light It Up Red. You can read all about their journey for yourself.

As for that baby announcement I mentioned earlier… well, that one I’m keeping close to my chest until the parents make their own official announcement.

I’m going to leave you with the parting words my father always says to me every time I leave the house.

Don’t get arrested. Don’t kill anyone. And no boys.

I think it’s safe to say that we all know my papa’s rules were made to be broken.

XX,

Aurora
