“Because you’re mine.”

“If I’m yours, does that mean you’re mine?” Livvy’s voice breaks the silence.

“Every fiber of my being is yours,” I tell her.

“You’re really big, so that’s a lot of fibers. You don’t even know me,” Livvy says.

I laugh. It’s a foreign feeling, being this at ease. “If I don’t know you, then why the fuck am I so pulled to you? I feel like maybe I’ve known you in many lifetimes and this is just the beginning of a new beginning for us.”

“And how does it end? Tragically, like Romeo and Juliet? Or happily ever after like Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam?”

“Is that your way of proposing to me, Livvy? My answer is yes, by the way. Both of those couples ended up married. I would, however, have to go with Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam. I’d like more than a few hours of happiness with you.”

“That most certainly wasn’t a proposal, and you’re very much against the sanctum of marriage, remember?”

“No, I’m not. I just said I haven’t had a reason to believe in forever yet,” I correct her.

“Mmm, forever is a really long time.”

“Or it could be short,” I say. In my family, today matters most. Tomorrow may or may not come for any of us.
