Magic
So what is the difference between Ember's magic and Offund's magic? Why does Ember use tattoos? What about Aridelle? Don't get me started on Kelios...
All* magic on Dorwine comes from the Blood of Dragons. Hence the name of Book 1. The Blood of a Dragon can be dispensed to a Dragon's followers to use in alchemy or minor magical spells. It's also used as currency. Merchant ships are bought and sold using this valuable substance. And those with Dragon's blood (like Dragons, obviously, and Hobs (as in hobgoblin's) like Offund) can learn arcane phrases that grant them access to magical powers. Offund is small and only has some Dragon's blood in his veins, so his capacity for magic is limited.
What about Ember? Ember doesn't have Dragon's blood in his veins. Nor does he have arcane training from those who do. How does Ember use magic? He cheats. His tattoos are etched magical symbols that help him circumvent the need for arcane phrasing, and allow him to apply Dragon's blood to a tattoo'd rune to cast his magic. This type of casting is extremely rare and is considered an offense to Dragons. Thus, illegal.
Aridelle is a bit like Offund. Offund is the product of a Dragon transformed into a human form mating with a mortal. Then why doesn't Aridelle have deformities like Offund? Elves are different. How and why becomes clearer as my series goes on, but suffice to say elves are different from all other humanoid races on Acos. Vastly so.
What about what Kelios does? Wel....let's save that for another letter. The answer is kind of involved. Suffice to say, his magic is similar to Ember's in that it's stronger when he's closer to its source (his ocean floor). I can't say much more or I risk spoiling some juicy stuff from Book 3.

I love Luna Fox stuff. It is known. Whenever I'm invited to a promo like this, I jump on it. Do the thing!
