Challenges Help Authors to Grow

Hey there!

The past week was a bit of a whirlwind for me in many ways. For one, I checked a few more 'firsts' off of my list by heading to LTUE in Utah, and second, we are--almost literally--drowning in eggs.

Remember when I used to talk about how our chickens weren't laying? Things have taken a very rapid turnaround on that front. When we started making the chicken feed from combining grains and other nutrients, we saw a small uptick in egg production.

Now things have gotten a bit out of hand. (see pic below) We're in a spot now where we need to start preserving them for the winter when production drops again. It's pretty great if we can go the whole year without needing to buy any eggs from the story.

Now as for my time at LTUE, it was an excellent opportunity to make connections and meet some pretty cool authors! It was also one of the most exhausting things I've done. (and this is coming from someone who had to moved 5 tons of hay a few months ago). Regardless, my table turned out pretty great considering I only had half of it.

I gave out tons of bookmarks and told a lot of people about the free story they get for joining this list. (If any of you just joined from meeting me at the conference last week, hello!) In light of that, I'm curious to know from you what is something difficult you've tried that might not have panned out the way you expected?

My Progress This Week

Frankly, with my mind consumed by preparation for the conference, and having to travel down and back up for the event itself, there was less writing than I would have liked. Still, unsurprisingly, I had a bit of a pivot with my short story for the Writer's of the Future contest. As I worked on the prequel to Harmel and Shrell, I realized 17K words was not enough to do it justice. They need a full fledged novel to themselves. Thus, I switched gears and started another I'm currently calling 'Spiritwalkers'. Imagine if there were 'angels' which looked like humans but could shed their bodies and inhabit humans to force them to make right decisions. Now imagine their counterparts.

That's what I'm working on now.

In other news, if any of you have checked out my direct sales store, you might have noticed I've switched things around. After adding my new books to the site, I realized how terrible the user experience was, so I built an actual store in Payhip to make it flow better. So if you ran into the shop while I was making changes, I'm sorry for the trouble. But things are looking much better now!
