Hey there!
In case you were wondering, manually digging post holes is a great way to force a goods night's sleep! This last week I spent quite a bit of time (taking advantage of the holiday weekend here in the U.S.) prepping the ground to build an outdoor chicken run. It was me and the trusty post-hole digger for many long hours. On the bright side, four of the eight holes are finished. A blessed halfway point to be sure.
The year is wrapping up faster than I would like, but the work must go on! Editing four books at once is not necessarily my favorite thing to do, but it's my wish to get these works out to you readers as soon as possible, so you gotta do what you gotta do.
My Progress This Week
Recently, I've had the privilege of joining a writing group. It has been extremely helpful and enlightening to work with like-minded authors and hear bold feedback. I know it's helping me become a better writer. That said, we decided as a group to each submit a short story to a competition (click here to see the competition). Given that I've never done a short story before, I'm trying not to overthink it. So far I have about 5,000 words of the targeted 10,000 for the story. More than likely the short story will turn into an Epic Fantasy series at some point.
I wrapped up my round of edits on the first book of The Kids of Cybercity Trilogy. It is both a relief and a load off my shoulders. ProWriting Aid and I did some great slasher work on that manuscript and I think we got it to a great spot. Hopefully the line editor agrees. Since then, I have jumped into edits on book two. I have to say, it's a great feeling reading through your words and constantly thinking 'wow did I actually write this? I didn't know I could do that.'
Casual Author Survey!
I'm still committed to doing the Casual Author Podcast, but I know that there are many ways for me to improve with it. The best way for me to better serve you (the listeners) is to ask! If you're a listener and would be willing to give me some thoughts about the podcast, I'd appreciate any feedback you have.
Switching Office Spaces
This last weekend we made the snap decision to move my office space in our home. When we moved in, we put our two daughters in one of the smaller rooms away from the living spaces in an effort to not bother them during naps. (Waking kids up early from naps always results in World War 3) Now that they are older, it made more sense to put them in a larger room. The small room seems more appropriate for an office space anyway.
Even though it's a tight fit, I was able to fit my two bookshevles (which are still too empty for my taste) and the small couch. Also don't mind the cords all over the ground. If you are a human and don't have at least one cord on the ground somewhere I am wildly impressed.
A collection of Exciting Fantasy Books for you!
And Now for the Free Books of the week!
warm regards,
Dan
