Cover Reveal and Crazy Homestead Life
May 16, 2024 3:10 pm
Hey there!
Things have taken a wild turn on the homestead the past couple weeks. One thing we're always striving for is to become as self sufficient as possible. In this case, hatching our own eggs would be pretty great if it meant we didn't depend on stores to provide meat chickens and egg layers. That said, we set a bunch of eggs to hatch in our incubator. As you can see below, we got to watch a few of them hatch! Unfortunately, it was a very very low hatch rate. Only five hatched out of 22.
We've done some research and learned that maybe some of the conditions might not have been perfect, so we're going at it again! Unfortunately, at the same time as this happened, we had a few wild hawks strike our chickens as they were free ranging in the fields. Fortunately, only four were killed, but it still was a decent blow to our flock.
In an effort to try to keep them away, I fashioned the most 'not-looking-like-a-scarecrow-scarecrow' you've ever seen. Is it ugly? Absolutely. Does it look like a human? Not at all. But I think it's freaky enough to keep the hawk away. At least so far it has been. XD
My Progress This Week
I'm just a few days away from finishing up my next short story for the Writer's of the Future submission this quarter. This will make number four, just enough for me to compile them and make them into a book themselves. I figured, hey, if the Writer's of the Future can compile the year's short story winners into a book why can't I have a book of my own short stories each year? With the four it'll pan out to be about the size of a small novel. I think you'll love reading them, especially with a little bit of art alongside each story.
And the moment you've all been waiting for...the cover for Dragonblooded!
Ta da!
I had a blast putting this one together, and while the learning curve was steep, I was able to learn an incredible amount from making this happen. Now that I have a cover, I'm just one set of Advanced Readers and one proofread away from publishing this bad boy. If you're interested in reading an advanced copy of the book, or any of my short stories, just let me know!
