Baby Goat 'Torture' and Editing Progress
Jun 27, 2024 3:38 pm
Hey there!
It's been a great couple weeks for writing and homesteading. First and foremost, we are currently going through the 'torture period' for our baby boy goats.
Okay, it's not really a torture period, they just think it's torture. They have been old enough for a long time to be away from their mom without milk, but we've kept them close by for convenience. It's been nice to only have to milk once a day and know that if we don't feel up to milking we can just let the babies have it all. Alas, the time came to separate them.
So the boys get to live with their dad from now on. There's been screaming and a bit of crying, but it normally only takes a few days for them to get used to it. Surprisingly, their dad is being nice to them. If you know bucks, they are a bit hormonal and can be aggressive. This time, he's been pretty chill with his three sons. Here's Jon asking 'why' with his eyes.
On the note of change, I'd love to hear from you about what you like/maybe don't like as much about these bi-weekly emails. Is there something you want to hear more about? Are there things you want to hear less about? I know that I could probably double the length of my emails easily but I figure who has time to read that much email? Let me know your thoughts.
My Progress This Week
I'm about 50% through going through the line edits on Dragonblooded. The story is so much cleaner after the editor got their hands on it and for that I am very grateful. It just means that the story is even closer to getting in your hands in book form. Of course, if you want early access, you'll get all the chapters before I publish it later this year on my Ream Community page. But if you're patient, then you have a lot to look forward to. Writing about half-mystical-blooded teenagers has been a huge blast. There's something oddly cathartic about writing teenage crushes and angst.
If you're like me, grammar is, and seemingly always will be, a massive challenge for you. No matter how many times I study the proper use of commas, or the right use of certain verb phrases, I just can't seem to get it right. But it's okay because I have a system to help fix those things for me! ProWritingAid is an extremely helpful tool that I use every time I edit. From grammar, to spelling, to even overused words throughout your book, it helps me get the story spic and span before I send it to my human editor. If I can get it clean, then the editor can focus on the right things without being distracted.
A New Site Update for My Direct Store
As you know, building a brand for yourself as a business owner is very important for being able to get out there and find your audience. That said, I wanted to secure a web domain for my store so that it's not 'weirddomain. com /dankenner'. So, without further ado, I present to you www.dankennerbooks.com!
I think that looks a bit more appealing than the weird domain for the hosting site. And, as a little extra tidbit of fun, I added a bundle of all the Lightbearer Chronicles Ebooks for 33% cheaper than you can get on Amazon, so grab those while you can!
