Hey !
Author Update
First off, let's get to the meat and potatoes.
I'm thrilled to announce that Dwarf Blooded, Book 3 of The Hidden Heritage series is now available to purchase! I took the opportunity to get a website set up for you to purchases some discounted bundles directly from me. You won't find these deals on Amazon ;) There are also signed books with other goodies (bookmarks/stickers).
Snag three book sets in both paperback or ebook for a discounted price. You can dive into the larger story for both the Hidden Heritage AND The Lightbearer Chronicles if you want.
But, you still prefer the Amazon, you can get them there too.
If you insist, here is the Amazon listing
I know it's a bit late, but January's short story is lit. For just a few dollars a mont, and my intense gratitude, you can get early access chapters to the books I'm working on AND a fresh short story (not available anywhere else).
"Galadrick Johnston has spent his life learning how not to feel.
In a future where alien Cloners exploit human emotion to hijack minds and bodies, emotional restraint is the foundation of survival—and the final requirement to earn command in the Elite Air and Armed Strike Force. The entrance exam is supposed to be a test of discipline: simulations of combat across land, sea, and space, designed to push candidates to their limits without letting emotion slip through. Galadrick is ready for that. What he isn’t ready for is the twist hidden inside the test.
Passing the exam may make him a commander.
Failing it may ruin him.
But choosing truth could change the fate of both species forever."
Homestead Update
Idaho weather decided that it would rather be spring than winter in the last month. That means high temps (in the 40s F) during the day and below freezing at night. We've also gotten a ton of rain (enough to match our water levels we typically see in March). Under normal circumstances, this is great. But when you have animals that leave droppings everywhere? NIGHTMARE.
For a good couple weeks there, it was a muck fest. It's like the hardened leftovers from the goats and cows of Kenner homstead past which had hardened into the dirt ground decided to get all loosey-goosey. Inches, I'm talking inches deep of it without proper drainage everywhere. We shoveled my body weight in the stuff nearly every day. Fortunately, the cows were chill. Their house was clean and dry, and they just got to chill. Same with the pigs. They loved the wet mud.
The humans? Not so much.
But hey, we made it to the drier days and it's much better now. I managed to solve the 'frozen water problem' by leveraging new in-water heaters with hardware cloth covering them. If you don't know what that is, imagine a thick woven wire sheet that is actually dangerous to touch. Haha! Cows won't be eating cords on my watch! Was it a pain? Yes. Was it painful? Also yes. But we have uneaten cords, so I'm feeling triumphant.
For now.
For Maizy (the calf) I had to run a 100 foot cord along the backside of a fence, and up and over our tall shop roof to keep it away from her jaws. It's a bit hacky, and probably looks silly, but hey. She has water that survives the nightly freezes.
I don't have pictures of these things today, but if you want them, just LMK. I'll snap a few.
As always, thank you for reading, thanks for following my journey.
warm regards,
Dan
