Late Winter, Good Creating Vibes

Hey there!

We're just coming out of what I swear was the warmest February in the history of this area, which, honestly, was a bit weird. Don't get me wrong, taking care of the homestead in the odd spring-like-weather has been pretty awesome. I could go out and refresh animal pens without my mustache and beard freezing!

So of course, now that we've entered March, the winter decided to come in with a passion. Combined with several blizzards (one which included a thunderstorm. That was odd), we got a pretty big pile of snow, much to our kids' delight. They've been out building forts and sledding with reckless abandon. The goats seem less than pleased about the whole thing. Unlike other farm animals, they are dramatic about getting wet, so they've been hiding a lot in their house.

It's a shame they couldn't even appreciate the curling snow off of their feeder.

In other news, I've recently been struggling to get into a book, and I never know when it is time to throw in the towel. I'm notorious for slogging through a book because I 'feel bad' not finishing it. I want to know how much of a chance do you give a book before you put a book aside and not finish it?

My Progress This Week

I've wrapped up my first round of edits on the short story that I'll be submitting to the Writer's of the Future competition and sent it off to my writer's group. Based on the number of comments they've dropped in there, it might need a bit more workshopping, but it'll get there. Hopefully I won't need to bludgeon the whole thing to smithereens, but after the group meet tonight I'll have a better idea.

It's been a great feeling to step out of the short editing window and back into the creating phase on Dwarfblooded. That book is at a whopping 13,000 ish words (alright, not really that much in the scheme of things but I'm making progress). There's something so satisfying about writing first person present tense from the perspective of a teenager. It definitely draws me into the story and reminds me of ancient times when I was a teenager myself.

Consider this a first notice about an upcoming sale for sci-fi/dystopian/superhero books. I've banded together with a handful of other authors to put a small catalogue of ebooks on sale on Amazon for $.99. The sale doesn't start until next week (March 15), but I figure I'll give you a bit of a sneak peak so you can make sure to jump on these deals the moment they drop next week.
