A sneak peek into A Troublesome Little Turkey Day

Wren couldn’t keep the smile off her face as she brushed Star’s beautiful blonde mane. Grooming the horses was one of her favorite activities but that wasn’t why she was smiling.

Having a few days of work and Ranch life under her belt she was feeling pretty great and at breakfast she had decided to test the waters a little bit. She hurried to the barn ahead of Travis and spent a few quick minutes rearranging and hiding some of his tools. He was meticulous about putting things away so you could find them when you needed them and she had heard the speech more than once already. Now she just needed to wait until he started discovering her little prank. Her tummy flipped nervously as Travis came into the barn.

“Up and at’em early, that’s my girl.” He smiled hugely.

“Not hard to do when you love your job.” She responded.

He headed into the tack room and she held her breath. Even though it was a small prank compared to smuggling Peanut, the anticipation was killing her.

“Wren, are you using my gloves?” He called out.

“Nope. I have my own and I don’t use yours without asking first.” She rote repeated the rule.

“They aren't on the hook where I always leave them.” He commented and she stayed quiet. She almost suggested that one of the other hands might have borrowed them, but she didn’t want her prank to rope anyone else in. This was between her and her Daddy. Guilt snuck into her conscience. They had made a clear distinction between being Daddy and Little girl outside of work and boss and employee while at work and now she was blurring that a little bit. Kind of. Misbehaving on purpose was still new to her but she imagined that employees might play small pranks on their bosses. She shoved the guilt away and finished grooming Star before moving to Snicker’s stall. As she was retrieving the shovel Travis came out of the tack room with a look of consternation on his face.

“I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. Nothing is where it….” The look on his face changed to one of curiosity and he placed his hands on his hip. Wren’s tummy fluttered as she tried to avoid eye contact and walk by him. He snagged her elbow, stopping her in her tracks. “Wren, honey. Has your Little prankster peeked out from behind the curtain?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” She lied.
