Towards a hopeful April 2026

Mar 31, 2026 4:31 pm

Dear Friend,

As we step into April, the Full Moon in Virgo, in Citrā Nakṣatra, offers some form of steady threshold amidst the intensity that surrounds us, both personally and collectively. The month ahead carries unmistakable weight as a result of the approaching Saturn–Mars conjunction in Pisces on April 19, 2026 signals friction, pressure, and necessary confrontation. I’d like to say that we are pressing both the accelerator and the brakes at the same time.

There is already movement whether we realise it or not. Mercury, having completed its retrograde passage through Aquarius, begins to transition into Pisces soon after the Full Moon. Mars has just entered Pisces, marking a shift in how action, energy, and conflict will express themselves–read my article here. Shortly after, the Sun enters Aries, while Venus moves into Taurus on April 18, just a day before the Saturn–Mars conjunction. By the end of the month, Mercury moves into Aries on April 29, indicating a subtle but important forward momentum.

At first look, this may seem like a difficult month. But such a view would be incomplete. The Saturn–Mars conjunction, though significant, does not define the entirety of April. In fact, Venus entering Taurus brings reassurance. It turns our attention towards stability, resources, comfort, and the profound act of sustaining ourselves. We will unconditionally return to what nourishes us, materially and emotionally. There is no escape.

Mercury’s transit into Aries may not be the most comfortable, but it does indicate progress. It is a necessary shift. A step forward from the stagnation and confusion that have characterised recent times. While April may not resolve everything, it begins to close a difficult chapter, at least temporarily. There is a sense that what has been difficult will slowly get better. April becomes a bridge, and May appears as a more promising period ahead from an astrological perspective.

On a personal level, this Full Moon is about deliberate creation. We have to build something, whether that is structure, routine, craft, or even a small space of order within chaos. Citrā Nakṣatra, with its association to form, pattern, and design, naturally will help us to consciously shape our circumstances. Each of us has a unique set of circumstances, yet it is likely that we have encountered echoes of this moment before. The key lies in recognising those patterns, reflecting on past responses, and choosing with awareness how we wish to proceed now.

In relationships, the tension between personal needs and shared goals may become more pronounced. There can be difficulty in reconciling individual desires with collective expectations. This is not a time for impulsive reactions. Instead, we need to have a careful thought process, foresight, and a willingness to imagine different outcomes before acting. Clarity must precede action, especially when others are involved.

From a broader perspective, the Moon squares Jupiter by sign from Gemini. This is not an indicator of excess or distraction, but it is about being clear and precise about how we expand and how we use our strengths. This helps with clarity, skills of discernment, and the ability to translate ideas into meaningful action. We don’t progress by doing more, but we progress by doing precisely what needs to be done. This is a fortnight to return to our strengths.

Inward Glance

Epictetus' Discourses: A Retelling

Book I, Chapter 10, 1.10.1 to 1.10.2

Epictetus begins this chapter 10 sharply.

He says, look at how seriously people in Rome pursue their ambitions. Power, position, influence. They give themselves fully to it. If philosophers, those who claim to care about truth and the good life, showed even half that level of commitment, they too would make real progress. The problem is not lack of knowledge. It is lack of application.

Then he gives a very human example. An older man, someone who had lived through exile and hardship, returns and speaks with regret about his past life. He criticises how he lived before and makes a sincere vow. From now on, he says, he will dedicate himself to peace and tranquillity. There is a sense of urgency in him. He realises time is limited.

But the tone here is subtle. Epictetus is not praising him outright. There is a question underneath it. Why did it take exile and loss for this realisation to come? Why do we wait until life pushes us to the edge before we turn towards what truly matters?

The lesson is simple. We already know what deserves our effort. The tragedy is that we do not give ourselves to it with the same seriousness we give to everything else.
