A book, a story, and an invitation

Dear Friend,
The person who first brought me into serious astrology was my granduncle — G. Gurumoorthy Iyer.
He was my closest motivation, alongside a few other people, to dive deeper, to go beyond technique, into the profound cosmology and metaphysics that underlie the Indian astrological tradition. When questioning elders is still considered a sin in India, especially in astrology, he encouraged me to question.
In late 2017, when I was deep in my exploration of Hellenistic astrology, I excitedly shared the concept of Annual Profections with him. I had noticed a fascinating parallel with the Indian technique of Sudharshana Chakra, and I wanted him to see it. He lit up immediately. So I kept going with subjects like Spear Bearing, Sect, the subtle differences between the Hellenistic and Indian traditions. He listened to it all with genuine interest and encouraged me to keep exploring.
He was 80 years old.
What stayed with me wasn't the technique or the conversation. It was that childlike hunger to learn something new at 80. I did not see any defensiveness or attachment to what he already knew. He just expressed pure curiosity and joy.
I have built this book exactly in the same spirit.
Driven by that same curiosity over the years, I delved deeply into the Vedas, classical texts, and the philosophical and cosmological frameworks where Jyotisa originates. What began as personal study gradually became an integral part of my course material. That material is now developing into a structured 4-year programme in Jyotisa; two batches of year 1 are what I am already teaching.
What I am now publishing is a portion of that work, Volume 1 of a series called Foundations and Frameworks of Indian Astrology. This volume alone covers roughly half of the first year. It is not a book of quick techniques. It goes back to the roots: the why, the what, and the how of astrology as the ancients understood it.
My granduncle passed away in March 2024. He did not get to see this work. But he is the reason it exists.
Before it reaches the world, I am opening a small door for those who would like to walk with me.
There are a few ways to support: from receiving a copy of the book, to being acknowledged as a Patron, to joining the next batch of my Diploma program. You can find all the details at the link below.
If my work resonates with you, I would be honoured to have your support.
With gratitude,
Aswin
Note: As a participant in the first two batches of the diploma course, you'll find your name included in the acknowledgements of the book.
