Mercury in Gemini and the Hidden King

Dear Friend,

Mercury in Gemini is a transit filled with information and processing and in Ardra, it sometimes indicates information that brings a storm into our existing understanding. This need not be a major life event. Life is usually made up of ordinary routines rather than dramatic turning points but within those routines, perspectives shift, assumptions are questioned and we find new ways of understanding things.

Mercury can be associated with the principle of Vāk in the Rigvedic tradition. In the Vāk Sūkta, speech (Vāk) declares, “I, verily, myself announce and utter the word that Gods and men alike shall welcome” (RV 10.125.5). Also, Vāk states, “Through me alone all eat the food that feeds them, each man who sees, breathes, hears the word outspoken” (RV 10.125.4). Vāk is not just speech in the ordinary sense but as a principle through which understanding is expressed and shared. In Gemini, the sign of communication, exchange and learning, Mercury indicates attention to the words we use and the truths they carry.

The hymn also presents Vāk as something that moves among gods and sustains various aspects of existence. While Mercury should not be equated with Vāk itself, the symbolism is useful to understand the unfolding of the archetypes in real life. Mercury’s role is to connect, translate and transmit. One conversation leads to another, one idea generates further inquiry and one piece of knowledge reshapes how other pieces are understood. During this transit, seemingly ordinary exchanges may have consequences beyond the moment in which they occur. A discussion, a message, a book or a passing observation may become the catalyst for a broader shift in understanding.

Mercury helps convert thoughts into language and this is a favourable period for putting ideas into words. Conversations, writing, teaching and learning become important avenues through which understanding develops. Mercury is also forming a square with Saturn, indicating that measured and deliberate communication will be required. Not every thought needs immediate expression and not every piece of information demands a reaction.

With Saturn in Revati, we continue a journey associated with Pusan, the deity of guidance and safe passage. A hymn describes Pusan as finding “the King, concealed and hidden in a cave” (RV 1.23.14). In the Rigvedic imagination, Pusan is not only a guide of travellers but also a finder of what has been lost, hidden or obscured. Mercury in Gemini can operate in a similar manner. Information arrives through conversation, study, observation and reflection, bringing into view something that was previously concealed. This may not be entirely new knowledge. It is the recognition of something that was already present but overlooked. A fact, an insight or a perspective that remained hidden may now be visible. Saturn continues the journey patiently and deliberately, while Mercury provides the information needed to navigate the next stage of the path with greater clarity.

One of the things I appreciate about Mercury in Gemini is the possibility to observe before reaching conclusions. Mercury gathers information, poses questions and pays attention to details that might otherwise be overlooked.

That is one reason I am drawn to a project my friend Meghna Bhagat is going to conduct on June 14.. Rather than beginning with assumptions about how Jupiter in Cancer should manifest, she is inviting participants to look at their own lives and see what actually happened. The project explores experiences across both tropical and sidereal frameworks and seeks patterns through observation making it a potentially experiential workshop which indeed is Meghna's one of many specialities.

I recently attended one of Meghna’s Vision to Form classes and found it transformative. If this kind of exploration appeals to you, I highly recommend taking advantage of this free opportunity. Register here

My next batch of Diploma in Indian Astrologycourse begins on June 14. If you have been considering studying Jyotiṣa or know someone looking for a solid foundation in the subject, registrations remain open. Enroll Here

With my friends across Diploma study groups, I have made some videos that will help you navigate through some of the planetary transits.

  1. Saturn in Revati
  2. Jupiter in Cancer

Watch these videos and share your thoughts in the comments section. I'd be interested in knowing if you have any reflections/thoughts.

Thank you for reading.

If you have been considering a consultation, my calendar is currently open and I have a few remaining appointments available in June 2026.
