LAST CALL FOR ALL MEMBERS! 📣
Join us for our first APSS Dialogue session, an insightful evening of self-reflection and meaningful dialogue! This event will delve into the pressing challenges confronted by speakers, corporate trainers and thought leaders in today's shifting and evolving landscape of what the audiences consider acceptable, and how far we wish to comply to the 'WOKE' culture and acknowledge the increasing prevalence of 'Cancel' culture.
Our primary aim is to create a secure and all-inclusive environment for discussions relevant to our industry of speaking/training/ coaching/consulting et al, on sensitive subjects. We'll explore issues like the language choices of speakers, the effects of cancellations (by audiences/ peers or of our gigs), setting boundaries, and the fine line between free expression and censorship.
This topic holds paramount importance in the realm of contemporary speaking as it profoundly influences not just our interactions, engagements, and societal dynamics, but also for us as speakers, it is the career ramifications, reputation, and brand damage, be it the one way or the other way... as we hope through this dialogue sessions, to get clarity and perhaps self-discover where we wish to take a stand and as we wish to make a choice to deliver, as a speaker!
TOPIC:
Navigating the Razor's Edge: Unpacking Woke Culture, Speaker Censorship, and Boundaries in Dialogue - Finding the Balance Between Expressing, Learning, and Evolving
In a world where words can either unite or divide, our discussion will unravel the intricate fabric of sensitive conversations. We'll delve into the emergence of "Woke Culture" and the dilemmas speakers face when selecting their words.
Our exploration will encompass the subtleties of language, the apprehension of being canceled, and the art of maintaining boundaries while pushing the boundaries of discourse.
From dissecting the potential pitfalls of political correctness to contemplating the responsibilities shared by speakers and audiences, we'll engage in candid conversations about the intricate balance between free expression and social responsibility. Moreover, we'll explore the reasons behind the acceptance or rejection/cancellation of some voices and strategies to navigate this fine line.
Agenda:
- Opening Discussion Panel (Rotating Panel)
- Table Discussions (Participant-led, semi-moderated)
- Closing Remarks (by participants from the Table Discussions)
- Closing summary by Founding Member and CSP, Ron Kaufman
Our table discussions within 'Breakout' groups are tailored to facilitate focused and open conversations, allowing you to share your experiences and insights on this vital subject.
Let's work together to discover common ground in this era of cancel culture. Your participation is highly anticipated!
