Happy 4th of July

Hello, .

As you celebrate this 4th of July, here's a little-known story from the early days of the United States.

Have you heard of the Liberty Tree?

It was an elm tree in Boston that became a central symbol of resistance against British rule. (Who are having an election today, interestingly)

Back on August 14, 1765, the first act of defiance against the British Stamp Act happened under this tree. The Sons of Liberty hung an effigy of the stamp distributor Andrew Oliver from the branches to protest the new tax.

The Liberty Tree quickly became a rallying point for patriots, and other colonies even designated their own Liberty Trees. But in 1775, British soldiers cut down the original tree in Boston to try and stop the resistance.

Even though the tree was gone, its spirit lived on. It came to represent the unity and determination of the American colonists. This story just goes to show how even something as simple as a tree can become a powerful symbol in the fight for freedom.

Happy Independence Day!
