We Went Camping!

👋
Dear all,
Last weekend we went camping. The time usually spent writing these emails was allocated to getting everything ready. “Everything” turns into a whole different dimension if you add a toddler and a 6 week old baby to the equation.
We had a van, mind you. A good friend trusted us with his robust “Ford Nugget” and, honestly, made the whole thing possible and really enjoyable!
Doing a trip in one of these, taking the family into nature and making a nice cup if coffee in the very well laid out kitchen gives you a hit of dopamine. Several of them, actually. So you start thinking that, maybe, you should also get one, you start looking online and wondering how you could make it work. You might even add a new goal to your list.
According to Damon Zahariades in his book “The Procastination Cure” this is your present self at work, and your present self is all about immediate gratification. But if you want to achieve your long-term goals, you need to keep your future self in mind. Specifically, you need to stop giving your present self the opportunity to sabotage what your future self wants to achieve. Happens to me all the time!
Nonetheless there is nothing wrong about adding goals to your list, as long as you are flexible and, again, realistic with them. Think of them as post it notes: they stick, but they are made to be moved around if necessary.
Be serious about goals.
Be flexible.
And don’t forget the pinch of salt.
Take care!
Your André
