Greetings dear Chroniclers,

It's good to be back to sharing with you after a little hiatus! So I have a few treats for you.

Liminal Chronicles Lore

The main setting for Liminal Chronicles is a small fictional town called Nonogawa. It means wild river or field river, perfect for its farming roots. But as with any magical setting, there are secrets. I based it on a darling little town I'd had the pleasure of visiting in Okayama Prefecture. Katsuyama (former name, now part of Maniwa) is known for the lovely noren curtains hanging outside each shop and a lively fighting float festival. They also have a great brewery where I picked up some yuzu (like a lemon) sake. Delicious!

Since crazy things happen in the setting, I didn't want to be so bold as to set it in the actual town. But I've done my best to preserve the flavor of what I saw in Katsuyama. To pick the name, I researched the names in the area and picked kanji (the Chinese-based characters) from them.

So I'll share a few of my favorite parts of Nonogawa. (To see the secrets in the articles, grab a free World Anvil account and then click the boxes in the right-hand sidebar under Team Secrets Available.) image)

  • The Magical Medical Clinic is hidden in plain sight. Only those who possess magic are able to see what it really is.
  • Banzai Izakaya, run by the outgoing and welcoming Noda Fotoshi, is the cozy little snack bar. A favorite in town. (Any guesses on what type of yokai he is? The article doesn't say...)

I hope you enjoy these Liminal Chronicles lore peeks!

Author News

Book 3 is in the hands of my dev editor. I can't wait to hear back from her. And of course I had several "Oh, I could go this way instead" ideas since I've sent it off. I've written them down in a list and will wait to decide on them until I hear back from her. Still progress is progress, even if it's the type that means waiting for it. ;)

Cassie takes an apparently safe and humdrum job in a government office in Glasgow. However, it turns out the conspiracy theorists are right. She has 10 days to save humanity from Them returning.

She’s revered for magic, not bedside manner. No one taught her to rely on others before the dying started.
