Spilling my secrets to getting s#%@ done!

Doing more by doing less sounds like an oxymoron to me. I am a high capacity person. I love to have a full calendar that keeps my energy up and allows me to feel a sense of accomplishment. Some of you may see it as being a busy body but, it’s important to remember that everyone has a different capacity load. I am one who thrives on activity. When I’m ON, I’m ON and then, I need periods of OFF to get ready to be ON again.

However, I am aware that my output shames others. I am not intentionally making this happen but, as humans are comparison creatures, it does. Call me the ‘intimidator’. . .not the best way to win friends and influence people, I know! So, it’s time to offload shame and own up to how I do it all:

Deep work is how I get so much accomplished. Cal Newport's book, “Deep Work - Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World” discusses this technique at length and he offers sound advice and practical tips to focusing your attention to get s#%@ done.

The practice of deep working allows me to accomplish more while applying my project management skills in focused pockets of time. No texts, no calls, no emails to distract me. Closed office door and a timer set. (Although I am still struggling to teach my dogs to ignore me. . .one of them often lays outside my office door and cries softly which is the ultimate distraction for a dog-lover) Ironically, I am in a deep working session as I write this message and I’m present, able to think clearly and happy to be divulging my secrets to others.

I’d encourage you to try it and please, don’t be intimidated by me. . .reach out and let me know how you feel. I’d love the opportunity to be honest and authentic with you,

Amber (aka The Feisty PM)
