If you’re new to this email, welcome! We’re glad you’re here. We email twice a month with news of our latest author, podcast, and events to guide the dementia caregiving journey, and sometimes to announce special events. Feel free to share what you see here with others concerned about Alzheimer's and dementia. You may unsubscribe at anytime below.

Hello ,

Welcome back to AlzAuthors Untangling Alzheimer's and Dementia, where we connect listeners with insightful resources and heartfelt stories about the dementia journey. This month our Featured Author is Shari Ross, a senior healthcare professional and author of “Senior Living Made S.I.M.P.L.E. - A Real World Guide for Navigating Senior Care for Your Loved One.” A former senior living sales specialist, she now runs a private consulting practice for families managing dementia care.

Shari’s expertise spans her professional experience in senior living communities and her personal connection to dementia through family. You can read her story on our blog and listen to our podcast with host Marianne Sciucco and acquisitions editor Sheila Luna. Our conversation dives deep into the emotional, practical, and logistical challenges families face when transitioning loved ones to senior living, with a focus on memory care, language, and advocacy.

Episode Highlights:

  • Shari’s background as a senior healthcare specialist, working in senior living communities, and her personal caregiving experience with her grandmother.
  • About “Senior Living Made S.I.M.P.L.E.”; the book’s conversational, relatable, and honest approach to guiding families through the overwhelming senior care landscape.
  • S.I.M.P.L.E. framework explained: Support, Information, Matching, Preparation, Letting Go, Engagement.
  • Why adult children and spouses often find themselves overwhelmed and unsure where to start.
  • Moving a loved one to a community does not end the caregiver’s role—in fact, continued advocacy, vigilance, and engagement are crucial.
  • Balancing oversight with respecting your loved one’s new environment.

Key Quotes:

  • “Memory care is not a punishment; it’s a lifeline.”
  • “Independence without a support net is just slow motion disaster.”
  • “Be observant, be vocal, and trust your gut.”

If you’re facing the challenges of dementia or senior care, AlzAuthors is here to help. Visit us online, browse our curated book collection, or reach out for personalized support.

Thank you for listening, and remember: you don’t have to navigate this journey alone.

AlzAuthors on "My Podcast Story"

Interested in how podcasts are made? Our podcast host Marianne Sciucco recently visited the show "My Podcast Story" with host Wisdom for an episode titled "How My Podcast Journey Helped Caregivers Worldwide." They talked about how Untangling Alzheimer's and Dementia came to be, the challenges Marianne faced early on, and how the podcast helps dementia caregivers. This was her first interview with a Nigerian host. She says, "Wisdom is a wonderful podcast host and asked me a lot of insightful questions I had not been asked before. He really got me thinking." You can listen to the episode here.
