Hello ,
As the year winds to a close, we’re finishing up incomplete projects and planning for next year. It’s a busy time. One project that has been languishing at the top of my to-do list is the pulling together of a poetry anthology featuring the work of the many fine poets who contributed to our live poetry event in April. Poetry for the Dementia Journey will include 133 poems written by 43 poets on a variety of themes related to dementia caregiving. It’s a breathtaking collection and I can’t wait to release it early next year.
This week’s new contributor to AlzAuthors is one of those poets, Sherri Levine, who has written about her caring journey with her mother in her collection Stealing Flowers From the Garden. She has also published a tribute to her mother's artistic legacy called A Joy to See, ekphrastic poems - poems in response to art - from 27 of the most prominent poets in Oregon.
Poetry enables us to express and understand ourselves in difficult times, as well as in joyous times, and grants others a glimpse into the full realm of our human experience. The holidays are a great time to indulge in poetry, to read aloud with family, and to muse. Poetry books also make wonderful gifts. Here are some excellent resources from AlzAuthors:
