Hello ,
We may be on summer break but we have a wonderful BONUS podcast to share with you! In this episode of Untangling Alzheimer's & Dementia, host Marianne Sciucco introduces our latest anthology, "Poetry for the Dementia Journey," featuring 43 poets sharing personal experiences of caregiving for individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia. Several of the poets attended the June 3, 2024 reading, which was recorded, and read their beautiful, personal poems, highlighting the power of storytelling in connecting caregivers and providing solace in shared experiences. Whether you've been touched by Alzheimer's or dementia or want to gain insight into these experiences, this episode offers a profound perspective on the caregiving landscape.
- Discover the power of poetry as a therapeutic tool for dementia caregivers
- Gain insight into the profound impact of personal storytelling on Alzheimer's
- Understand the unique challenges and emotional impact of early onset Alzheimer's on families
- Explore the benefits of creative expression in providing holistic care for individuals with dementia

In Case You Missed It
Did you know Alzheimer's can sometimes be linked with dissociative identity disorder? In our latest podcast, we dive deep with author Marc Alderdice about his memoir, "Don't Forget to Dance," capturing his wife Mary's unique journey through Alzheimer's and dissociative identity disorder (also known as Multiple Personality Disorder). Faced with shocking challenges like her erratic behavior and four distinct identities, Marc sheds light on balancing caregiving with finding joy in life. We discuss early diagnosis, the importance of proactive decision-making, and the emotional journey of a male caregiver. This heartfelt conversation is a testament to resilience, love, and the power of embracing every moment. Don't miss this inspiring episode, now live!

Book Club Discussion Rescheduled to August 6th
Please join us for our next book club discussion as we explore a novel, Blue Hydrangeas, an Alzheimer’s love story, written by AlzAuthors founder Marianne Sciucco. This story about a pair of retired Cape Cod innkeepers struggling with the wife’s Alzheimer’s disease was inspired by a couple Marianne met in her work as a hospital case manager. Readers say:
- “Blue Hydrangeas is, by far, the most tender love story I’ve read in a very long time.”
- “Blue Hydrangeas is a different kind of Alzheimer’s tale. A story of love and loss, of impossible promises, and dreams passed on to the next generation.”
- “Read it twice just to make sure I didn’t miss anything.”
Our next read is Christy Byrne Yates’ Building a Legacy of Love: Thriving in the Sandwich Generation. We will discuss it on Tuesday, August at 27th at 7 pm EST.
Remember: it’s not necessary to read the book to attend the discussion. All are welcome. Please invite your family and friends.
