Dec 08, 2021 5:19 am
Dear AlzAuthor,
Susan was forced to place her husband in a dementia care facility when her own health failed. No longer an at-home caregiver, she felt lost. While searching for something meaningful to occupy her mind as she recovered, she decided to tell their story. She hopes her book, How to Navigate the Minefield that is Dementia with Your Loved One, will be helpful to others on the dementia journey.
Susan shares:
I wanted to share an understanding of the disease and offer hope for the future, so I underwent a deep dive into medical literature and shared the information in layman’s terms. My hope is that a greater understanding of the disease will remove the stigma associated with it. Individuals who have dementia can experience and bring great joy, those who fail to understand this miss out on that joy.

On The Podcast
Edie Weinstein is the youngest of the AlzAuthors. She published her illustrated children’s book, Grandpa and Lucy, at the tender age of 16! But today, at 18 and a college student, she may be one of our wisest contributors. She's an inspiring, intelligent young woman who is clearly going places. You will enjoy this delightful interview, where we explore what sparked her interest in dementia (hint: it wasn't her Grandpa), what happened after she published her book (hint: theater is involved), and how the experience of publishing a book about dementia at such a young age has enhanced her life. In Case You Missed It...
Michael Ellenbogen was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s at the age of 49. Prior to his diagnosis, he was a network operations manager for a Fortune 500 financial institution until difficulty with work-related tasks led to an unwanted early retirement. He is a passionate, outspoken dementia advocate who pulls no punches. In this episode we discuss the trials of seeking a medical diagnosis, living with early onset Alzheimer's, and his advocacy work that brought him to the halls of Congress and the World Health Organization. AlzAuthors on Amazon Live! Watch the Replay
We were thrilled to be on Amazon Live with Motivational Listener D. Scott Smith and Aging Enthusiast Christine A. Smith. They offered us their support on #GivingTuesday to help raise awareness of AlzAuthors and our collection of books to Amazon shoppers, to encourage them to choose us as their designated charity for their SMILE program. SMILE enables Amazon customers to support their favorite non-profits at no personal expense. Over a dozen of our authors met online and spoke about their books. You can catch up on the program and learn more about our authors and their books here. And don’t forget to choose AlzAuthors as your SMILE charity!
