Dear Friend of AlzAuthors,
And just like that, summer is over and fall has begun. The seasons switched on schedule in the Hudson Valley. On September 22, the autumnal equinox, Mother Nature changed her mood, leaving behind glorious end-of-summer temps in the 80βs and ushering in fall with temps in the 50βs and 60βs. Thereβs a chill in the air, and a need to bundle up with long pants, long sleeves, socks, shoes, and maybe a jacket. This only proves that change is one thing we can always count on, whether itβs welcome or not. We prepare for it, alter our attitudes and our plans, adjust, and, hopefully, enjoy it. Autumn is the season for apple cider, pumpkin spice, the beauty of the foliage as trees prepare for winter, and hunkering inside, preferably with loved ones and a stack of good books. Happy fall, yβall!

New on the Podcast
In this AlzAuthors Live! Virtual Q&A we explore the similarities and differences caregivers and those living with dementia encounter as they seek care and search for solutions to the many questions and problems a dementia diagnosis brings. The speakers featured in this event represent the United States, Canada, and Argentina. We hope their stories will inspire and empower you on your own dementia journey. This discussion was recorded on September 13th, 2022. This event was originally scheduled with three of our authors - Cindy Weinstein (US), Donna Thomson (Canada), and Katya De Luisa (Costa Rica) - but heavy rainstorms prevented Donna and Katya from participating, although we did get to hear from Donna briefly. Both Donna and Katya have been on the podcast in the past. You can find their episodes here.

Introducing our newest author: Dave Iverson
Emmy winner, writer, documentary film producer/director and retired broadcast journalist Dave Iverson cared for his mother for ten years, until her passing at age 105. His memoir, Winter Stars: An Elderly Mother, an Aging Son and Lifeβs Final Journey shares their story.
Dave tells us:
I wanted to write "Winter Stars" for a number of reasons, but one is certainly because that ten-year caregiving odyssey humbled me, changed me and reoriented me perhaps more than any other life experience. It was both the most challenging thing Iβd ever done and in many ways one of the most deeply rewarding.

Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Bute
We are happy to share the news that our very own Dr. Jennifer Bute has won the 2022 Dementia Alliance International Richard Taylor Advocates Award! Dementia Alliance International (DAI) is a collaboration of like-minded individuals diagnosed with dementia providing a unified voice of strength, advocacy, and support in the fight for individual autonomy for people with dementia. Jennifer is a medical doctor in the UK who retired early due to her own dementia diagnosis. An active member in DAI since its inception in 2014, she has always said she was greatly inspired by Richard Taylor and called him a friend. Jennifer is the author of Dementia from the Inside: A Doctor's Personal Journey of Hope and blogs at GloriousOpportunity.org.
