imageThe first film discussion is next week, Monday, September 8th at 2 pm EST, with Mary Crescenzo and her film "Planet A." Don't miss it! Mary's film is unique and the writing is moving and beautiful. She has much to share about communicating with people living with dementia through art and music. You will take away a new understanding of these conditions. Here's the link to watch Mary's film for free on YouTube. Note: This copyrighted production is for viewing by AlzAuthors Film Festival registrants only and not to be copied or shared.

Why a Film Festival? Many of our authors have branched out beyond books—creating films, podcasts, poetry, and music inspired by personal experiences with Alzheimer's and dementia. We're putting a spotlight on those creative works that open our eyes and hearts to the many facets of caring, living, and loving through dementia.

How Does It Work? From September through December, immerse yourself in  unique films. Watch at your own pace, from wherever you are, on whatever device you prefer. After viewing, you’re invited to join us for live, interactive Zoom discussions with the filmmakers themselves. Bring your thoughts, questions, and curiosity!

The Lineup

  • September:
  • Planet A by Mary Crescenzo—A poetic, theatrical journey into the world of Alzheimer’s, bringing real voices and experiences to the stage and screen. 112 minutes
  • No Country for Old People by Susie Singer Carter—A riveting, three-part investigative documentary (as seen on Amazon Prime!) exposing the challenges of memory care facilities. We're viewing Part One. 118 minutes

  • October:
  • Lousy: Love in the Time of Dementia by Frank Silverstein—A heartfelt short film capturing the loving but difficult realities of caregiving for two parents with dementia. 15 minutes

  • November:
  • Wine, Women and Dementia by Kitty Norton—Join Kitty as she travels cross-country to meet other caregivers, forming community and sharing laughter, tears, and hard-earned wisdom. 127 minutes

  • December:
  • The Present by C. Nathan Brown—A moving family drama about navigating grief and togetherness after losing a loved one to Alzheimer’s. 21 minutes

Get all the details on the blog.
