Ba wo ni ?

A few days ago, I bumped into an old colleague and friend at an event.

And he said something that hit me...

"Nnenna, keep doing what you are doing. It is a marathon not a sprint"

GBAMMMMMMMMM!!!!!! *raises hands in the air*

First let me define the words "Marathon" and "Sprint".

Here is how University of Google defines them...

A marathon is a long-lasting or difficult task or activity.

A sprint is a short period of running or going very fast.

Let me interprete them when it comes to building your brand and running your entrepreneurship journey...

When you try to speed things up just to get seen by people, you would end up attracting the wrong people to your brand.

For example...

The first time I hosted our Tourism Virtual Summit, I paid an agency to help me get participates. And I had a good amount of attendees.

The problem was that after the summit, I had a chunk of people in my email list who didn't really want what I was offering.

It was frustrating and exhausting, *sigh*

I ended up deleting a lot of email subscribers and started building my email list organically.

The result - now I have quality customers who appreciate and want my services.

Also my email open rate is much better *yaaaay*

At least people like you open, read and respond to my emails, which really gladdens my heart. So thank you, *smiles*

Here is one of my new favourite quotes...

Slow and steady wins the race

Buying followers is a sprint. It gets you the quantity aka the numbers but not always the quality.

Building my email list organically is the marathon way that gives me quality followers...people that truly want to hear from me.

Remember , it's a marathon not a sprint.

When building anything of quality, you need to go the slow and steady route.

Now I am not saying doing a sprint is not good, o! There are times you need instant result then you can go the sprint route.

A good example is paying for adverts to boost your brand on line so as to attract a new set of audience (P/S: Can you see the words I highlighted in green? Take note biko)

But a word of caution, donot do it too often, it can eventually backfire on you.

That said, I will advise that you consider running more marathons and taking few sprints when building your brand, .

Remember...

Life is short, live it to the fullest.

Till then, sai wata rana *waves*
