Itâs hard to believe that itâs May again but I am so enjoying the long evenings, are you? I feel like summer is on the way (although I understand the weather here in Ireland doesnât seem to be indicating that much!) and places are starting to open back up again which is giving us some hope to things changing for the better soon.
Mindset & Self-Care
This month take time out to reflect on how far youâve come and how much youâve achieved. Sometimes we miss out on celebrating what we have achieved and focus more on what we havenât. So this month look at what you have done!!
I know that I, for one, can be really hard on myself. I always have dreams of where I want to be in my business, that most of the time, I donât look back to see how much Iâve accomplished. Next month will be a year since I finished up my full-time job and took my Career Coaching & Consulting Business full time, in the middle of a pandemic. Wow itâs been some journey!
I pushed myself well out of my comfort zone, took risks I never thought I would ever be able to do, and I achieved a lot. This month I hit over 100 subscribers on YouTube. This year I worked with over 80 clients to date, became a speaker for the Jobs Expo, presented 4 webinars to various different companies, launched 4 online courses to help you wonderful people achieve all the success you deserve in your career and life.
And most importantly I learned a lot! I failed in some areas and ideas that I had, I excelled in other areas and from that I am continually learning every single day.
I'll be honest. There have been some moments Iâve been tired, frustrated and felt like giving up. However in other moments, when I worked with my clients throughout our one-to-one sessions and online courses, I felt an overwhelming sense of purpose and fulfilment seeing how Iâve helped others achieve their goals. Knowing that I've made such a difference in people's lives, makes me believe I am on the right path and reminds me that I just need to keep going to achieve my overall goals.
So let this newsletter be the sign you need to keep going. If you are working towards something and feel like giving up, donât. Start by recognising how far youâve come, what youâve achieved to date (no matter how small you might think it is, itâs an achievement and you must celebrate it! đ) Recognise your failures and learn from them, donât give up because of them. The truth is everyone has to fail in order to succeed.
Career Tips
This monthâs career tips are around being confident in work. It happens or has happened to all of us at one time. We wanted to speak up, say how we were feeling, contribute our opinion or build reputation in work but we just struggle to have the confidence to articulate ourselves correctly.
If you want to speak up at work but are lacking in confidence to do so, start with the following steps:
- Recognise your strengths, where you have experience, knowledge, and expertise in. Write them out on a piece of paper and say them over and over. That way when youâre speaking up at work, you can confidently say you have the experience, knowledge or expertise in these areas. In addition to this, recognise or write down your weaknesses and where you need to build experience. Go get that experience. This will help you become an expert in those areas that youâd like to.
- Prepare. Preparation is key. If you want to contribute your opinion at a team meeting, with a client, to a senior manager, etc. and want to build a good reputation from this, then preparation is vital. Prepare what message it is that you want to send and what do you want to gain from sharing this opinion/contribution. What tone are you going to use when delivering this message? Does it need to be light-hearted, influencing, serious?
- Practice. Practice makes perfect. Practice out loud to yourself, in front of a mirror, to a friend. Prepare questions that might come up following your presentation/contribution. Practice how you will answer them and how you would steer the conversation back to make your point if youâre interrupted.
Using these 3 steps will start you speaking out with confidence, let me know if you have any questions on this by directly replying to this email!
