Question of the Week
Q: When do NCAA coaches start recruiting players?
A: Typically, mid to high-end NCAA D1 coaches do the bulk of their recruiting when players are 15-16 years old. From there, about 10-15% of their recruits fall in the 17-20 year old range. This happens because some of the players they recruited at a young age de-commit whatever reason, and coaches need to commit an older player fast to fill up the spot. As for NCAA D3 & lower-end NCAA D1 programs, things are a bit different. Typically, these programs will commit players between the ages of 18-20 years old. Therefore, if you're a late bloomer and don't get an NCAA D1 commitment at a very early age, don't lose hope because you still have some good options available to you if you continue developing right.
