Tip of the Week
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that we all want to be respected & valued by our peers; it feels amazing when those around you treat you as an equal or even look up to you.
With that being said, have you ever noticed how in some circumstances, you might not be treated as well as others in the group? Or on the flip side, you don't particularly treat another individual as well as the rest? For the most part, we're all good people at the core, so these differences in treatment are usually very subtle. But still, it begs the question of why? This notion goes counter to what we were all taught at a very young age: "always treat others the way you would want to be treated" (or in other words, always treat others with the utmost respect).
Well, the answer is quite simple: Respect is earned, not given. People don't have to respect you, and you most certainly can't force them to. So that begs the next question, how do I increase the respect others have for me? Well, this can be done by consistently demonstrating to them that you have a strong character. Generally, the stronger the character others perceive you to have, the higher their respect for you will be.
It's important to note though that earning high levels of respect from others takes time. Therefore, you must be patient and consistently demonstrate that you actually have a strong character. Side note, this is why people don't respect fakers & manipulators: they can't maintain the facade over long periods of time, ultimately exposing their lapses in character to the group.
Now, we understand that you don't want to be reading this newsletter all day, which is why we won't dive into the details of having a strong character today. With that being said, our recently published YouTube video is a good place to start on this topic. If you want to know more on how to develop a strong character, feel free to reach out to us by replying to this email; we'd love to talk to you about this topic.
