Question of the Week

Q: What's your opinion on Jr. rookie camps?

A: In almost all cases, they're a waste of your time and money, especially if the coach hasn't contacted you before hand. Unfortunately, most teams run their rookie camps to raise money and invite players they're actually interested in to their main/training camps. The only exception to this is if the coach personally tells you that they want to see you at the rookie camp to make an early decision on whether they will sign you or not. If they do tell you this, they'll often let you go to the camp for free or at a reduced cost. So moving forward, don't just blindly sign up for rookie camps. Instead, contact the coach beforehand, gauge their interest level, and go from there.
