The Lessons of Failure

Aug 29, 2023 5:16 pm

Hello ,

Looking back on my recent experiment about wet and dry paydirt's effect on gold recovery, I've learned a lot from its failure. At first, I was so focused on wet versus dry that I missed some hidden things that could affect the results. I now get how important it is to think about all the things that might change the outcome. Picking the right samples is a big deal. On my first try, I didn't choose well, and there was more gold than expected. I see now that using the right materials is really important.

Keeping good records matters too. In my first experiment, I didn't write down everything I should have, which made it hard to understand what happened. I've also figured out that mistakes are part of the deal in science. Instead of feeling bad about them, I'm using them to learn and make things better. I've also learned that repeating an experiment is a good way to make sure the results are real. It's like checking your work in math.

Being patient and not giving up is a big lesson. When my first try didn't work out, I didn't let it stop me. I learned that science takes time and trying again. This whole experience has taught me that doing science isn't just about getting answers; it's about trying, learning, and trying again. I'm excited to keep going, armed with these lessons, and take on new challenges with a better understanding of how science really works.

Embracing Healing and Connection: Lessons from "A Gypsy's Kiss"

by Shelley Carney

Welcome to a thought-provoking journey through the pages of literature and life as we explore the themes of healing, relationships, and closure in Chapters 18 and 19 of "A Gypsy's Kiss: A Treasure Hunt Adventure.

Podcast hosts and authors Shelley Carney and Toby Younis take us on a captivating exploration of the emotions and insights within these chapters.

Watch the video or download the podcast episode.

In this episode, Shelley and Toby dig into the heart of the novel, unraveling the intricate threads that bind characters' experiences to our own.

Let's journey together as we explore the themes that resonate deeply within our own lives.

The Passage of Time and Cherishing Relationships

Time slips away faster than we often realize, much like the characters' experiences in "A Gypsy's Kiss."

Accepting that we were not going to talk about last night, I moved my mind to the new day. “I’m riding to the next gas station to fill the bike up. Then keep moving east. I’m hoping to get into Louisiana by nightfall and be in New Orleans by Tuesday evening for the end of Mardi Gras.” — A Gypsy’s Kiss: A Treasure Hunt Adventure, Chapter 19

It's a reminder that we should value the moments we have.

Just as the hosts Shelley Carney and Toby Younis mention, telling our stories helps us remember good times together and work through our emotions.

“When we had the memorial, I wanted to make sure that everybody had a chance to tell their stories, and they did. I feel like that helped all of us, everybody who was there.” — Shelley Carney

Cherishing these connections is like preserving a precious gift.

Gold Science Take 2: Testing Wet vs. Dry Playground Sand for Gold!

🔍 Ready for some hands-on gold science? We're back with a new experiment to see if wet or dry material can help find more gold. Last time didn't go as planned, but we've got a fresh start using playground material from Home Depot – it's not likely to have much gold in it. 🏞️💰

🔬 Join us as we give it another shot! We've got two batches of material with the same-sized gold flakes we used before. This time, we're extra careful to avoid any mistakes. We're testing if adding water makes a real difference when finding gold. 🚰💦

🛠️ We've set up our experiment with a special water channel, just like before. This time, we're more aware and making sure we count all the gold, even in the leftover material.

💎 Will the wet material show more gold? Or will the dry material surprise us? We're crossing our fingers for a better outcome and some exciting results!

📊 We're going to weigh the gold we find in both wet and dry material. Our do-over will help us learn if water really helps move gold around, especially with material that's less likely to have hidden gold.

🌟 Don't miss this second chance at gold science fun. Click the like button, subscribe, and hit the bell so you're the first to see if we strike gold this time – both in our experiment and in learning! 🤞🌄💡
