Hello ,

When we speak to our family members about our planned move across the country, we pause to think about who and what we are leaving behind.

Toby and I attended the Albuquerque Wine Festival on Labor Day and enjoyed sampling the variety of wines made in New Mexico. 

We wandered about the field, looked over the kitschy items for sale, and sang along with the dueling piano music playing nearby. We also reminisced about the other events we attended together in Albuquerque over the years.

Stopping to purchase a bottle of Barrel-Aged Blanc de Noirs sparkling vintage wine from Gruet, we started planning a going-away party to say goodbye to our local family and friends.

We also think about the delicious New Mexican food we'll miss like huevos rancheros, enchiladas, green chile cheeseburgers, chile relleno, tamales, and posole. But we're looking forward to eating a lot more fish, crab, and shrimp!

When we call our kids, they are excited that we will be moving closer to where they live because they want to be with family more often. They have discovered that independence can sometimes feel lonely.

There are many choices to make when you are starting over and the possibilities can be overwhelming. 

This week, we embark on a heartwarming journey exploring the powerful idea that family isn't confined to blood ties or geographical boundaries.

In a world filled with diverse cultures, languages, and landscapes, it's easy to forget that the universal language of human connection transcends these differences.

No matter where you live or travel, there are opportunities to find and connect with people who become an integral part of your life, just like family.

The world is filled with kindred spirits waiting to become a part of our unique journey.

Wilderness Encounters: Adverse Experiences and Adaptability

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where things spiral out of control? 

Adverse experiences are like unexpected storms that sweep us off our feet, leaving us scrambling for stability. 

They're the moments when life takes an unexpected turn, challenging our preparedness and resilience. 

Imagine being caught in a chaotic situation where there's no time to think, only to act. 

I try to remember all the things I’m supposed to do when encountering a bear, a black one in this case, of around 350 pounds is my guess. Heart racing and mind swirling, damn if I can remember whether I’m supposed to climb a tree or not. A Gypsy’s Kiss: A Treasure Hunt Adventure, Chapter 21

Adverse situations are chaotic, leaving little room for hesitation. Adverse experiences can't be fully predicted or controlled; they demand adaptability. 

“You don't expect adversity. It just happens and suddenly you have to face the adversity. Resilience comes in when you can start looking at these situations of adversity and not panic and start doing things about them.”— Toby Younis

This adaptability is what soldiers learn in the midst of combat, where no amount of training can completely prepare them for the adrenaline-fueled chaos they face. 

“Nothing prepares you for being in war. You've had training, but when it gets down to the moment that somebody's shooting at you and you're shooting back, it's very chaotic.”— Toby Younis

Adverse experiences remind us that life is unpredictable, but our capacity to adapt remains a powerful tool in overcoming its trials.
