In the spirit of summer exploration, we're jumping from the New Mexican frying pan to the fire of the sun-soaked deserts of Arizona this weekend. We'll pack our bags (and sunscreen!) and discover the wonders that await us in Gold Canyon. We'll be visiting with family, but we plan to grab some paydirt before we head back home again.

You may notice that we are transitioning away from New Mexico Day Trips by incorporating our prospecting trips on our Garage Prospecting YouTube channel. For those of you who enjoy our travels around New Mexico, tune in to see our adventures continue on Garage Prospecting on Wednesdays.

As we embark on these summer escapades, let's take a moment to reflect on the family and friends we've recently lost and cherish these memories with fondness rather than sadness. After all, life is too short not to savor every drop of sunshine and every moment of watching the next generation play in the sprinklers or pool.

Understanding the Hero's Journey

To kick things off, we explore the concept of the hero's journey as a powerful narrative framework. 

Toby Younis shares his unique perspective on each assignment in his life, relating them to mini hero's journeys. As Toby says, "Every assignment had its own beginning, middle, and end," and "unexpected challenges along the way tested my ability to overcome obstacles."

Toby's Courageous Choices

We then delve into Toby's personal journey, starting with his bold decision to leave college and join the military in 1969. Despite facing opposition, Toby's unwavering confidence in his path shines through. 

We discuss his experiences in the military and the valuable lessons he learned along the way. Toby reflects, "I faced opposition, but deep down, I knew it was the right path for me," and "Through hard work and undesirable jobs, I shaped the course of my life."
