Olá
I subscribe to a few newsletters that do weekly reflections.
I really like the format and idea behind it.
So I figured why not. Here’s my riff on 3 Sunday Musings. These will be a mix of health, fitness, life, and whatever else I’m pondering or have noticed throughout the week.
1.Most people fail with their health & fitness because of their internal world rather than their external world
I have a scouting report on myself that I routinely visit to get my mind right.
I have my success code. But more importantly, I have my failure code.
Failure used to mean not getting the result.
Now, failure is…
- Giving up
- Not telling myself the truth
- Not taking the time to know what I want
- Waiting for somebody else to tell me I can do something
- Waiting for somebody else to tell me good job before I feel good
Failure is a choice—a state of mind.
The majority of entrepreneurs will give up inside before anything external (ex: lack of funds, competition, time, or people) ever comes close to forcing them to do so.
The same with health and fitness. The majority will give up internally and start to normalize their weight gain (or Quarantine 15), lack of energy, aging, and loss of vigor.
There are many distractions and chaos in the world right now, but if you’re honest with yourself, that isn’t the main culprit to your health and fitness struggles.
Optimal health is an inside-out job.
Get the help you need to get your head screwed on straight, and you'll probably succeed wildly.
2. Focus on the major rocks first and foremost
In the business world, people obsess over the colors of the buttons on their sales pages or if they should end their price with a 7 or 9.
In the health world, people obsess over which rice grain to eat, if their overtraining, meal timing, supplements, and numerous other things.
These things don’t matter, for 95% of people sweating over these things because they haven’t even mastered the basics.
There are levels to this thing they call health and fitness.
I often get asked about cognitive stacks and other tactics to optimize performance, and these same people are sleeping 6 hours per night with a strong dependency on caffeine to make it through the day.
Entrepreneurs want the limitless pill but haven’t even optimized their sleep.
This week I challenge you to only focus on the big rocks. Pull the big levers consistently.
Report back to me in a week with how it went.
3. The "health slide," and what will you do about it?
Let’s look at the hidden (well....really not so hidden) issue going on—people’s general well-being.
According to the CDC, about four in 10 Americans (some 93.3 million adults) were already obese before the pandemic. And according to the APA’s latest “Stress in America” report, more than two in five of the surveyed adults (42%) revealed that they gained more weight than they intended over the past 12 months. And they put on 29 pounds, on average.
Now, I doubt this is you because you’re a high performer.
But, with that said, have you still, none-the-less, let yourself slide during the past year? Maybe not to this extreme, but have you taken a dip?
And if so, have you owned up to it, or have you given yourself some bail (i.e., excuses)?
It’s been an adjustment on many fronts.
But when do you plan to do something about it?
If you hit the slide, cool, it’s whatever.
It’s done and over with.
You can stop the slide right this very moment by deciding to stop it.
It’s that simple.
Delay and postponing only make it harder to get back going.
Have an awesome Sunday!
Stay awesome, be limitless, and go be superhuman
-Julian
PS — If you’re ready to stop the slide and stop piecemealing solutions that are built on hope, let’s talk. Head over to https://theartoffitnessandlife.com/application, and let’s talk. But warning: I don’t operate nor believe in just making incremental improvements, so if you’re not mentally ready for a total upgrade, then it’s best not to talk at this time.
