Heavy Metal
I also have to give thanks for Heavy Metal! I truly believe music is a spiritual practice. It is the gateway to the soul and it allows us to FEEL things in a way that truly is unique. For that I will always be thankful for and a champion of music. Heavy music in particular makes me feel so effing powerful! Not only powerful though, it also makes me feel happy, excited, sad, strong, there are so many dimensions to metal music and I can't preach the gospel of metal enough!
This week, I want to give a nod to melodic Swedish Metal! It has such a dark undertone with some hauntingly beautiful parts to it. I also want to feature a new group that is made entirely of ex-members of In Flames. Some of the members have also been in Dark Tranquility and some other Swedish Metal bands, but the common denominator is that Each member of the Halo Effect have all been in In Flames at one point or another.
The Halo Effect recently released their debut singe "Shadowminds." You can definitely hear the influences from their time with In Flames, but it still has a unique sound of it's own. Give it a listen and let me know what you think about it!
The Halo Effect - Shadowminds
Dark Tranquility are a really unique band. They are definitely in the realm of melodic death metal, but they lean more into the melodic part and have a truly beautiful heavy sound. That is no easy feat for any band.
Dark Tranquility - Atoma
Finally, the original juggernauts of Swedish Death Metal and the best known here stateside, In Flames! This song is one of my favorites from them and I hope you love it too!
In Flames - Take this Life
