Where are you focused?

Hello, hello.
I find myself pondering many questions lately. (If you know me, you realize I'm pretty much always pondering something.)

On a racetrack if headed towards a wall, a race car driver knows that looking at the wall ensures they'll crash into it. Drivers are trained to look where they want to go. They physically turn their sights to the direction they wish to head.
Here are a few things that are rolling around in my noggin at the moment.
- Why do we talk about unemployment numbers instead of the number of people who are working?
- Why do we have a Department of Defense (formerly Department of War) when what we say we want is peace? Why not a Department of Peace?
- The chance of rain is predicted instead of the chance of sunshine.
- Why do we say minorities when what's really meant is non-white people? ("Minorities" are the majority of the world population, you know.)
- Why the number of people experiencing homelessness instead of home occupancy rates?
- We use gross domestic product to measure success in the country when really most of us would define success as something closer to contentment or happiness.
John Doerr has made the concept of measuring what matters famous in his writings. One of my core beliefs is that we get more of the things we pay attention to. We are focused on the wrong stuff.
I tend to think a lot about what I want more of in my life. The things we want to increase are the things we should pay attention to, measure, and talk about. I'm not suggesting we ignore the other stuff but they definitely shouldn't be the yardsticks we use to determine our progress or success.
What are your thoughts?

This second and final item is something I stumbled on early this week. Stonehenge enhanced sounds like voices or music for people inside the monument. This is fascinating to me!
That's all I have for now. Talk to you soon!
