A Saturday summary

Hey there! How did your week go?

I once heard that we are drowning in information but starving for wisdom. We are constantly being bombarded with loads of stuff; words, video, audio, television, radio, streaming services, movies, and music. Lots and lots and lots of content.

There are at least a dozen email newsletter lists I’m on. Add to that volumes of books, RSS feeds, podcasts, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and TikTok. Whew! It’s no wonder I feel overloaded most days and have a hard time remembering where I saw/read/heard something. It’s exhausting!

A couple of weeks ago, on a podcast, I heard Noah Kagan talk about the value of having a newsletter to share with people. Right away I signed up for a service. Then I sat on the idea. I mean, what would I say? Do I have enough flotsam floating around in my head that people might want to hear about?

Slowly it hit me, maybe there was something in the books and websites and podcasts and newsletters I consume. I do learn about a lot of cool, interesting, or odd things.

One of my core desires is to make a difference in the world, make it a better place. And I want to help others become better and help them improve our world as well. My belief is that by sharing some of the things I discover, it will help in some small way get me closer to that goal.

So, here we go! My random three things worth checking out this weekend.

  1. How much do you know about opossums? I know this might seem kind of odd at first but check out this PBS video made by a local wildlife filmmaker. (It's only 3m 16s. You can make the time.)
  2. The words we use have a very powerful effect on us. I read How a Password Changed My Life several years ago. In 2015 I implemented my own version of the concept which was the impetus of a 100 pound weight loss journey for me that year.
  3. I recently learned about Window-Swap.com. It gives a random glimpse out someone's window around the world. Earlier this week I stumbled onto a view of badgers eating in the evening in Halesowen, England. Yes, seriously! If you have an unused webcam lying around, I think you can sign up to give someone a look outside of your window if you're so inclined.

One final thing, what's your favorite movie?

That's all I have for now. Hope you have a fantastic weekend! :)
